Founded in 1943, The Cambridge Cooperative Club is comprised of up to eleven, lively and mature housemates spanning in age range from early 20s to mid-90s. Housemates have included teachers, musicians, writers, meditators, researchers, students, farmers, dancers, photographers, and organizational leaders. The house seeks to create a safe space where all feel welcomed, and house members are committed to recognizing and working to transform deeply-rooted systems of oppression of all kinds in ourselves, our community, and our society so that we may more fully contribute to building communities of peace and cooperation in the world.
Housemates all share a common interest in living purposely within a communal setting. There is a communal dinner once a week as well as a house meeting twice a month that housemates are expected to attend. Housemates are also expected to complete weekly chores related to cleaning & organizing the house, and/or cooking & shopping for the household. Each member takes on a role in one of three committees related to maintenance, finances and community connections which work monthly to manage broader issues for the household. Housemates spend time together socially while also balancing their other life priorities and have held potlucks, gatherings, and workshops to educate and entertain themselves and to build community.
